Day 10: Scottish Highlands: Inverness via Pitlochry and The Pass of Killiecrankie

Picked up our hire car this morning. Luckily, we were given a Peugeot 308 station wagon, which is great given we booked a Ford Focus. Headed out of Edinburgh, on our way to Inverness, under the superb guidance of “Tom” (Tom). Stopped at Scone Castle and then for lunch at Pitlochry. Pitlochry is a beautiful little town, almost a village atmosphere. Obviously quite a pricey place given the quality of restaurants and shops. It is on the River Tummel. Grabbed a coffee each (and it was great) and some homemade delicious carrot cake and headed to a lovely little stop called The Boat Shed for lunch. Continued on towards Inverness and stopped off at The Pass of Killiecrankie – about 5 minutes out of Pitlochry. The Pass of Killiecrankie, is renowned for its outstanding beauty and natural history. Was a 3km return trip down to the pass and the view up both ends of the pass was lovely. The River Garry flows at the bottom of the Pass. The viaducts you can see on the path were fantastic. Walk a bit tiring to the end... after 3kms, steps straight up can be a little challenging. But clean Highland air most invigorating. Resting in Inverness, again great hotel, great dinner at the pub.
